New putters on the shelf
Golf isn’t all about hitting the longest drives and making the biggest noise; you’ve also got to be calm and humble on the greens to score well.
Equipment
They say you make about 50% of your shots on the course with your putter. Performing on the green is an essential area of the game; you can drive it 300 yards down the middle every time but if you can’t putt, you’ll be having a hard time making par.
Playing good golf comes down to two factors: the player’s ability, and the equipment they’re using. While it’s essential to practice to get your game in shape, the latter undoubtedly compliments the former.
Cobra is one of the leading golf putter brands, and their clubs are known to benefit all manner of golfers, from those just starting out through to veteran professionals of the game. So, let’s take a look at some of the latest Cobra golf putters that have hit the market.
The Grandsport-35 blade putter in the King 3D-Printed range has a traditional plumbers neck hosel, and is suited for players that putt with a moderate arc in their stroke.
As the name implies, each model in the range is fitted with a 3-D printed nylon cartridge insert that optimizes the club’s weight distribution to give the club a high MOI. This means the club will be very resistant to twisting on impact with the ball, so your shot will stay perfectly on the line you intended.
The putter’s face is fitted with grooves that feature Cobra’s Descending Loft Technology. This means that as you work your way down from the top to the bottom groove, the top has four degrees of loft and the bottom groove one degree. As a result, whether you’re hitting the ball upward or downward on impact, your strike will be meeting the ball with the same ideal degree angle.
An armlock variation of the Gransport is also available if you tend to get the yips. This model has been given a longer length and an oversized grip to allow the user to rest both the grip and shaft against their lead forearm, giving total stability. This setup also eliminates any variation in shaft angle through your putting stroke, so you can rest easy knowing you’ll be hitting the ball perfectly squarely.
There are six models in the 3D-Printed range, so besides the two bladed models there are four mid-mallet variations.
The Supernova has a large, oversized fang-shaped clubhead, with two wings jutting back from the clubhead to add weight and stability. The Supernova has a single bend hosel, whereas the Supernova 20 is the same shape but has a flow neck model that players who putt with an arc-shaped stroke will find comfortable to use.
The Agera golf putter features a forgiving square full-mallet shape and a single bend hosel. Not unlike the Grandsport, the Agera is also available in a 41” Armlock variation. These four mallets feature the same nylon insert, multi-material construction, and descending loft tech as is found in their bladed counterparts.
The best in the world train day-in-day-out to get to their prestigious positions, but they still use the same equipment like the rest of us.
